You lead the international humanitarian law dimension of our work, advising clients operating in or around armed conflict on where the legal lines fall and how to stay inside them.
This role contributes across SISG's seven service areas, in its own dimension:
- Political and security risk. Assess the legal dimension of political and security risk, including the obligations of state and non-state actors.
- Strategic intelligence and market entry. Advise on IHL and human-rights exposure when clients enter or operate in conflict-affected areas.
- Crisis and access. Support access and crisis decisions with principled-engagement and IHL analysis.
- IHL and compliance. Lead IHL compliance reviews and advise on how counter-terrorism and sanctions rules interact with humanitarian action.
- AI and influence threats. Advise on the legal treatment of incitement, disinformation, and information operations under applicable law.
- Executive and asset protection. Advise on the legal limits and obligations around protective measures for personnel.
- Training and leadership advisory. Deliver IHL training and tabletop exercises for client and partner staff.
- An advanced university degree (Master's) in law, with a specialisation in public international law, international humanitarian law, or human rights law.
- A first-level degree (Bachelor's) in a relevant field, together with two additional years of qualified experience, is accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
- Admission to a recognised bar or law society is an asset.
- Minimum five years of professional experience with substantial international exposure.
- Demonstrated experience delivering work comparable to the responsibilities above, advising on IHL or humanitarian frameworks in operational settings.
- English is required. Arabic or French is a strong asset.
- A record of integrity, discretion, and sound judgement under pressure, and of working effectively across disciplines and cultures.
This is a project-based associate engagement, not employment. Compensation is agreed per project. You invoice SISG as an independent professional and remain responsible for your own tax and social-security obligations. Work is mainly remote, with occasional site visits. Selected associates undergo due diligence and sign confidentiality and conflict-of-interest declarations. Joining the roster does not guarantee project assignment.
